Authorities in the Western Division, in conjunction with the Sigatoka Town Council and Fiji Police, are actively managing local traffic and movement. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this time of heavy rainfall.
As a precautionary step, a family of ten from the Calia Settlement in Serua was evacuated to a local LDS Church but has since returned home safely. Minister Ditoka highlighted the severe risks posed by flooding and urged the public to prioritize safety by remaining indoors and keeping children safe. He warned against the dangers of crossing flooded streams, rivers, or bridges.
Traffic disruptions and potential road closures are expected, prompting motorists to exercise caution. A flash flood alert is currently in effect for low-lying areas across several regions including Vanua Levu, Lami, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, and Naitasiri. Additionally, heavy rain warnings have been issued for the Northern Division, with alerts for the Central and Eastern Divisions and the Yasawa Group.
A trough of low pressure is moving gradually over the Fiji group, bringing cloudy conditions and rain, though easing weather conditions are anticipated later today and clearing is expected by Thursday. The flash flood warning remains in effect for Sigatoka and other susceptible areas.
