The Nadi weather office has issued a flash flood warning for all low-lying areas and small streams across Fiji. Residents are advised to be on alert for high tide expected around 3:00 PM today, as the region experienced significant flooding yesterday at the same time.
Recent rainfall has been considerable, with the Nadarivatu area recording 186.5mm, while Momi, Sigatoka, Vatukacevaceva, and several other localities also reported substantial precipitation ranging between 56.0mm and 96.5mm.
On a positive note, the Fiji Roads Authority has announced that the Queens Road running through Nadi Town is now accessible to all traffic as floodwaters have receded. However, motorists are urged to remain cautious, as some areas may still be wet and slippery.
A heavy rain warning continues to be in effect for the entire Fiji group, as an active trough of low pressure remains in the region, contributing to the ongoing weather disturbances.
In summary, while the situation regarding flooding remains serious, the receding waters and reopening of main roads indicate progress in managing the challenges posed by the recent severe weather. The local community is encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
