Emergency operations centres in the Western Division of Fiji will remain active as the Fiji Meteorological Service reports that rain is expected to persist throughout the weekend.
Divisional Commissioner for the Western region, Apolosi Lewaqai, has urged the public to take necessary precautions in light of the ongoing rainfall. Today, the response teams successfully distributed food rations to 61 families residing in evacuation centres within Nadi. These families were displaced due to the recent floods that occurred earlier this week and are currently being sheltered at Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
The evacuation centres have seen a wave of support from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental groups, local businesses, and the Ministry of Health, all contributing by providing cooked meals, bottled water, food rations, and hygiene kits to those in need.
For additional assistance, the public is encouraged to reach out to the following contacts:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 6664946
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9937346
– Nearest Police Station: Contact your local station for emergencies.
This situation highlights the strength of community solidarity during times of crisis. The ongoing support and cooperation from various groups demonstrate a hopeful approach to recovery and resilience in the face of adversity. Communities coming together can bring hope and aid to those most affected by the floods.
