The Fiji Football Association has donated $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji to support efforts against childhood cancer in the country. The funds were gathered during the recent Fiji FACT and Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, with $1 from each ticket sold contributing to the donation.
The handover took place at the FMF Inter District Championship opening ceremony last Tuesday at Churchill Park in Lautoka, conducted by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo.
Patel highlighted the Fiji FA’s ongoing commitment to supporting WOWS Kids through donations generated at football events since the 2022 Pacific Community Cup. “We are pleased to be part of this fight with WOWS Kids, and we will continue this partnership,” he stated.
He noted that this initiative falls within Fiji FA’s social and corporate responsibility framework. “We also have the Football for Humanity program aimed at supporting our former players, and as part of our corporate social responsibility, we believe in partnering with WOWS Kids, which cares for children diagnosed with cancer,” Patel added. He assured that Fiji FA would keep backing WOWS Kids Fiji in various ways, mentioning a total donation of $37,532 in the previous year, expressing gratitude to football fans for their support.
WOWS Kids vice chair Vilash Chand thanked Fiji FA for its continuous support over the last two years. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are incredibly thankful to Fiji Football. The donations have played a crucial role in saving many children’s lives,” he remarked, adding that this contribution would help ease the financial burden faced by families needing to cover cancer treatment expenses for their children.
