Former Socceroo Luke Wilkshire is set to be the chief guest at the Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards Night, scheduled for December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi.
Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf expressed enthusiasm about Wilkshire’s attendance, highlighting the honor of hosting a FIFA Legend at the prestigious event. Wilkshire’s notable international career and his contributions to Australian football are anticipated to serve as motivation for Fiji’s football community.
During his visit, Wilkshire will participate in the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and will also visit the Fiji Ba Academy. His involvement is expected to make a significant impact on both football fans and aspiring players in the region.
The Fiji FA Awards Night is making a comeback after a three-year break, during which it will honor the best in Fiji football with 16 awards acknowledging players, teams, officials, and contributors.
Wilkshire’s football journey includes time at clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he claimed the A-League title in the 2017-2018 season. He earned 80 caps for the Socceroos, scored 8 goals, and represented Australia in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), as well as being part of the victorious 2015 AFC Asian Cup team and competing in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
After retiring, Wilkshire has successfully transitioned into coaching and remains a respected figure in the Australian football scene, recognized for his tactical acumen, passing skills, and leadership qualities.
