Seeds supplied by India last year have been successfully harvested and exported within just 12 months, marking a significant achievement for agricultural exports. This accomplishment was celebrated by Assistant Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna, during the launch of New Valley’s Frozen Export Produce & Cold Chain Facility.
Minister Tubuna noted that farmers commenced planting cowpea seedlings shortly after their handover last year, demonstrating rapid adaptation to new agricultural practices. The produce, now reaching international markets through New Valley and its partners, is already providing immediate benefits to local farmers, contributing to their livelihoods.
This milestone reflects the effective collaboration among the government, development partners, and the private sector aimed at fostering agricultural growth and enhancing food security. Tubuna praised New Valley for its new facility, which significantly boosts Fiji’s cold storage capabilities, food safety standards, and overall international logistics.
The Assistant Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting local enterprises that are essential for driving economic advancement, reinforcing a positive outlook for the agricultural sector in Fiji.
