The Minister for Education of Fiji, Aseri Radrodro, recently led a delegation, including Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, to Sacramento State University. The mission was aimed at enhancing collaboration in key areas such as curriculum innovation, student support, and the incorporation of emerging technologies into educational practices.

During their visit, Radrodro and Vuidreketi had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Ponipate Rokolekutu, a Fijian academic currently at San Francisco State University. They recognized that Sacramento State is home to 160 Fijian students, underscoring the university’s role as an important destination for Fijian learners.

The delegation emphasized the necessity of establishing robust support systems and pathways that would enable Fijian students to access broader international education opportunities. Their engagement with Sacramento State’s Black Honors College and Willetu Native American College provided valuable insights into inclusive and culturally responsive educational models that focus on fostering student retention, a sense of belonging, and academic achievement.

Moreover, conversations ventured into harnessing Artificial Intelligence to improve educational outcomes through better teaching, learning, and professional development strategies, ensuring that education remains aligned with the dynamic requirements of the labor market.

Ultimately, this visit underscores Fiji’s dedication to cultivating an inclusive and progressive educational landscape. It reflects a commitment to expanding options for Fijian students, fostering global learning experiences, and adopting innovative practices that equip learners for future challenges and successes.
