Lawyers Tanya Waqanika and Samuela Savu, representing former acting commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, Sevuloni Naucukidi, have been advised to ensure their client’s presence in court when his case is called. This reminder was issued by Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne after Mr. Naucukidi missed a pretrial conference yesterday.
Mr. Naucukidi faces a charge of criminal intimidation, which is linked to an incident that allegedly occurred in July 2025, wherein he is accused of threatening a member of his support staff. The charge was formalized following discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
During the court proceedings, both legal representatives indicated that additional time is needed to finalize the pre-trial conference minutes before they can proceed further. Mr. Naucukidi is expected to reappear in court on January 19, as the case continues to unfold. This case highlights the ongoing legal proceedings involving public officials and underscores the importance of adhering to court protocols.
