Fiji Engineers Unite to Raise Standards for Future Graduates

During a recent meeting at the Fiji National University (FNU), Professor John Mo from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology highlighted the crucial need for the university’s engineering program to meet global standards as outlined by the Washington Accord. This requirement is essential for producing graduates who are equipped to practice as professional engineers in Fiji.

Professor Mo spoke at the Engineering Fiji (EF) event held on the FNU campus, emphasizing that this discussion was part of a series aimed at fostering a common understanding of the necessary standards. He noted that the main focus of the meeting was to clarify the Washington Accord requirements, which grant international recognition to engineering programs across its signatory nations.

In addition to Professor Mo, Salabogi Mavoa, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education and Training at FNU, expressed his university’s commitment to hosting the meeting in light of the ongoing collaboration between FNU and EF.

The meeting was chaired by Terence Erasito, Director of Erasito Consultants, alongside Vijay Krishnan, Director of Engineered Designs Ltd and the newly elected vice president of EF. Among the newly elected EF members were Hamen Lodhia, re-elected president, Dr. Satyanand Singh as honorary secretary and treasurer, James Raman, Anil Kapadia, Richard Sekiguchi, and Satish Patel.

Engineering Fiji plays a vital role in maintaining professional engineering standards in the country.
