The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has expressed disappointment over misleading reports concerning the ongoing electricity tariff consultations in the Northern Division. CEO Senikavika Jiuta has taken a stand to clarify that these consultation sessions are specifically structured to be one-on-one, allowing every Fijian a personal platform to voice their views.

Jiuta has refuted claims suggesting that “proper consultations” are not taking place, stressing that the FCCC is committed to engaging directly with the community. This week, the organization will continue its consultations across major towns and cities in the Northern and Western Divisions, with plans to expand into the Central Division next week. Jiuta has emphasized that this engagement is intended to be meaningful rather than a mere formality.

The FCCC is actively gathering feedback from the public during these face-to-face interactions, with Jiuta personally attending the consultation in Nadi this week at the FNPF plaza, from 10 am to 3 pm, inviting anyone interested to share their perspectives directly with her.

Alongside on-the-ground efforts, the FCCC is engaging in high-level discussions with key stakeholders. Letters have been dispatched to significant organizations, including the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation, the Fiji Chamber of Commerce, SME associations, and consumer groups, encouraging their participation in the consultation process. The FCCC has established a 21-day period for all interested parties to contribute their views.

To aid consumers in grasping the implications of the tariff proposal, the FCCC has implemented a ‘Bill Calculator’ tool. This resource allows customers to input their electricity usage and observe how the proposed changes might affect their bills.

Jiuta warned that misrepresentations regarding the consultation process could impede public participation and urged all Fijians to take advantage of these opportunities to engage meaningfully in the discussions about their electricity tariffs. The FCCC’s diligent outreach seeks to ensure that every voice is heard in shaping Fiji’s energy future.
