The Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, has officially lodged a police complaint against Barbara Malimali, the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). This complaint was filed on November 28 with the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew. The allegations include abuse of office, intimidation, and harassment of witnesses.

Acting Commissioner Chew has confirmed the receipt of this report and indicated that an investigation is currently underway. This complaint is part of a broader inquiry being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) concerning Malimali’s conduct, as her appointment is also under scrutiny from a Commission of Inquiry.

Additionally, the CID is investigating claims of abuse of office during Malimali’s previous role as Chair of the Electoral Commission. FijiLive has reached out to FICAC for an official response regarding this situation.

This development raises significant concerns about accountability and integrity within Fiji’s electoral processes and anti-corruption measures. As investigations progress, it is crucial for all parties involved to cooperate fully, ensuring that justice is served while maintaining public trust in these critical institutions. The outcome of these inquiries could lead to positive changes within the electoral and anti-corruption frameworks in Fiji.
