Fiji Education Sector Takes Bold Steps to Empower Teachers

The government will disburse payments for qualification upgrades benefiting 395 teachers in two phases: the first half will be provided before Christmas, with the remaining amount to follow in January, as announced by Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education.

During his address at the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Mr. Radrodro emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting educators. The congress, themed “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” reinforced the ministry’s commitment to ensuring teachers receive their rightful benefits within the year.

He stated that these payments will complement location allowances and other incentives, along with a notable announcement regarding 103 assistant principals who will receive new distinctions to set them apart from heads of departments. These measures are designed to recognize the invaluable contributions of teachers in Fiji and to retain their vital expertise for the betterment of both the education sector and student learning outcomes.

Furthermore, Mr. Radrodro articulated the Coalition Government’s investment in building a strong educational framework and praised the tireless efforts of school heads, underlining the significant impact educators have beyond the school environment. He also encouraged collaboration among educators at the congress to foster unity and innovation in teaching practices.
