Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has issued a stern warning to school principals against engaging in unfair and discriminatory enrollment practices. He highlighted troubling reports where students, despite attending school in full uniform, were denied access or were advised to seek education elsewhere shortly after starting. Some students have also been sent home due to unpaid Parent-Teacher Association levies.

Minister Radrodro reiterated the mandates of the 2023 Denarau Declaration, which emphasizes the need for equitable education opportunities for all children. Enrollment should not be contingent on academic performance or any other exclusionary criteria. Radrodro stressed that actions that obstruct students’ access to education stand contrary to the intentions of the coalition government, and those responsible will be accountable to him personally.

The Minister called upon educational leaders to show empathy towards the challenges faced by parents and guardians. He encouraged troubled families to contact their local district education offices for guidance and assistance. Radrodro assured that the Ministry is dedicated to supporting schools in managing enrollment processes effectively, aiming to enhance inclusivity and access to education across the nation.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn. The Ministry’s proactive stance reflects a broader dedication to building a solid foundation for future generations, promoting inclusivity, and enhancing educational standards nationwide. By addressing these issues, the government seeks to create a nurturing and equitable educational landscape for all students.
