Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has made a significant appeal to school leaders, urging them to intensify efforts to boost academic performance and tackle social issues within schools. Addressing school heads during consultations at Jai Narayan College, Radrodro highlighted persisting concerns such as drug use, bullying, and behavior problems among students. Despite substantial government investment, many schools continue to fall short of academic expectations, particularly in examination results and scholarship placements.
Radrodro emphasized that school leaders are responsible for guiding over 70,000 secondary students nationwide, and stressed the need for transparent appointments and effective communication, along with decisive leadership. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting schools through various measures, including staffing enhancements, infrastructure improvements, curriculum reforms, and the integration of indigenous languages and vocational pathways.
The Minister called for active leadership, accountability, and innovative practices to raise the standard of education, student wellbeing, and community engagement in government schools. He believes that by setting higher standards and fostering a proactive educational environment, schools will not only address immediate challenges but will also lay the groundwork for long-term academic success.
The consultations resonate with Radrodro’s broader initiative in which he has consistently encouraged school leaders from underperforming institutions to work closely with the Ministry. By collaborating to identify specific school needs and implement strategic improvements, Radrodro aims to create a culture of enhanced educational attainment, accountability, and community support.
Radrodro’s efforts represent a comprehensive plan to empower educational institutions. He is optimistic that through collaborative efforts and setting clear academic targets, schools across Fiji can work together toward significant progress. This initiative not only aims to uplift academic standards but also envisions a future where education in Fiji thrives with the collective commitment of educators, students, and communities.
