The Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and the Ministry of Education are making significant strides in transforming the teaching landscape across Fiji. During the recent 2025 Education Congress, Ratu Kadavulevu School Principal Ilaisa Tukana Waqalala highlighted that the event tackled the pressing challenges teachers encounter in today’s classrooms.
Waqalala noted that the Congress introduced practical strategies aimed at helping educators bridge learning gaps and adapt to the evolving demands of modern teaching. He emphasized the need for teachers to embrace change, stating, “We need to go with a change. We need to change ourselves. We need to change the way we think. And we need to change how we operate.” The call for transformation is particularly important for institutions such as Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School, as they seek to enhance their educational approaches through continuous learning and leadership development.
FTRA Chief Executive Sangeeta Singh pointed out that the Congress also supports teachers in fulfilling professional development requirements, noting the necessity for educators to complete at least 20 hours of professional development to renew their teaching registration in Fiji.
The 2025 Education Congress aims to empower educators with essential skills and contemporary knowledge, fostering a forward-thinking educational environment. Uniting teachers and stakeholders under the theme “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds and Shaping Tomorrow,” the event firmly positions Fiji on a path toward improving student outcomes and enhancing the quality of education throughout the nation. This collective effort showcases a commitment to advancing teaching methods, ultimately benefiting the future generation.
