The Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has announced that movement restrictions in the Western Division have been lifted. In an update released this evening, NDRMO reported that there are currently eight active evacuation centers housing 79 households and a total of 350 evacuees in the region.
Today, efforts were made to deliver essential rations to those affected at these centers. Additionally, Ministry of Health teams are visiting the evacuation centers to provide necessary medical support.
Support for evacuees has been robust, with various organizations contributing vital resources:
– Freezco and the Red Cross have donated 100 bottles of water and four black pack hygiene kits to four evacuation centers in Nadi.
– The Hare Rama Hare Krishna group has been distributing food to those in the Korovuto evacuation center.
– Empower Pacific is offering psychosocial support to evacuees in the Nadi centers.
This collective response highlights the strength of community support and collaboration during challenging times, ensuring that evacuees receive both physical and emotional assistance as they recover from the recent disaster.
In summary, the lifting of movement restrictions brings a sense of normalcy back to the Western Division, while ongoing support and resource distribution continue to help those in need. This situation serves as a reminder of the resilience and unity within communities in times of crisis.
