Two players from the Vinod Patel Ba Skipper Cup, Ponipate Bacaivalu and Meli Tuvusa, are set to join the Chennai Bulls, led by former Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings, for the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s next week. This announcement has been confirmed by Ba Rugby Union secretary Gaby Kautoga.
Before joining the Bulls, Bacaivalu and Tuvusa will participate in a rugby clinic at Ba Methodist High School on Tuesday, aimed at under 12 to 18 players who attended the Nadi Junior 7s last month. This initiative marks the beginning of a new partnership between the Bulls and Ba Rugby, emphasizing the importance of mentoring and developing young talent in the region.
Kautoga expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating their delight in having the Bulls visit and motivate their young athletes. Gollings noted that the team, which includes four players from the Indian national squad, is eager to share their skills and experiences with Ba Rugby, enhancing the players’ understanding of the game.
Last year, the Chennai Bulls found success in the Indian Premier League 7s with the help of Fiji 7s representatives Filipe Sauturaga and Joseva Talacolo, who contributed to the team’s victory. This year, the Chennai Bulls are set to compete in pool C alongside Dominion Brothers, Mike Friday Select, and USA 7s at the Coral Coast 7s tournament.
Fans can catch all the action live and exclusively starting next Thursday on FBC Sports, marking an exciting week for rugby enthusiasts in Fiji. The collaboration between Ba Rugby and the Chennai Bulls promises to foster the growth of local talent while providing the young players with invaluable exposure to high-level competition.
