Police in Fiji have arrested a 48-year-old woman and are conducting a manhunt for a male suspect following a dramatic incident during a drug raid in Navosa. The event took place yesterday when officers from the Western Division Operations Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Vunibota Settlement. During the operation, the armed male suspect allegedly threatened police with a knife and managed to escape on horseback.
While searching the property, investigators uncovered nearly two thousand dried plants, wrapped in cloth, and zip-lock bags containing dried leaves and seeds, all believed to be marijuana. The woman has been taken into custody as the authorities continue their investigation and search for the male suspect.
This incident is part of a larger police initiative aimed at disrupting illegal drug activities across the country. This past week, law enforcement officials made several arrests for unlawful possession of both marijuana and methamphetamine in various regions, including Labasa Market, Makoi, Kadavu, and Ba, among others. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Kasiano Vusonilawe emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is committed to intensifying their efforts to combat the illicit drug trade, especially in anticipation of increased seasonal activities surrounding the upcoming festive season.
As police continue their operations and engage the community in these efforts, there remains a hopeful outlook for enhanced public safety and reduced drug activity, fostering a secure environment for all.
