Momentum is building for the Swire Shipping Fiji Drua team as they gear up for another challenging and thrilling Super Rugby Pacific season. With the 2026 season approaching, forwards coach Chris Gibbs expresses confidence in the team’s progress during the pre-season, asserting that they are on track for success.
Gibbs highlighted an improved atmosphere within the organization, stating, “It’s been a really good shift here, and I think right through the organisation you can see it, you can feel it that we are moving in the right direction.” While there is still much work to be done, he believes the team is in a solid position to face upcoming challenges.
Last season’s disappointing outcome continues to motivate the players, pushing them to elevate their performance in the pre-season. Gibbs remarked on the importance of approaching the 2026 season with a refreshed mindset: “The reflection part for us was around making sure we turn up to this preseason heading into 2026 with a better mindset and attitude.”
An emphasis on physicality has been a priority in their training, with Gibbs noting that to compete effectively, the players will need to enhance their physical performance. “We’ve been combining our rugby skill work, but we’ve understood that there’s a lot more physical stuff that we need to be getting out of our boys,” he explained, expressing satisfaction with the results so far.
The Drua will commence their 2026 season at their home ground, Churchill Park in Lautoka, facing off against Moana Pasifika on February 14. With a focused mindset and an emphasis on physical training, the team is hopeful for a successful season ahead.
