The Fiji Meteorological Service has downgraded the flash flood warning for the entire region to a flash flood alert this morning. This change comes as Tropical Depression TD03F, currently located to the northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara, continues to move gradually to the north of the archipelago.
Despite the downgrade, the associated weather system with rain bands is still expected to affect various areas of Fiji until later Thursday. Authorities have warned that isolated heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding in some locations, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions.
Potential impacts include flooding of drainage systems, small streams, low water bridges, Irish crossings, roads, and properties. In light of the ongoing weather developments, Fiji Met urges the public—especially motorists and residents in vulnerable areas—to exercise caution and remain vigilant regarding changing weather conditions, as heavy rain may persist in parts of the country.
As Fiji navigates these weather challenges, community awareness and proactive safety measures will be paramount in minimizing risks associated with potential flooding.
