Fiji has advanced to the quarterfinals of the HSBC Dubai Sevens following a decisive 42-20 victory over the USA in their second pool match. Demonstrating improved performance, the South Sea Islanders secured this essential win ahead of their final match against the New Zealand sevens team.

Despite facing an early challenge, Fiji quickly found their rhythm and established a 21-10 lead by halftime. The USA’s Lucas Lacamp opened the scoring with an unconverted try, but Fiji quickly responded with three consecutive tries from Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Filipe Sauturaga, and Joji Nasova, with Sauturaga converting all of them.

Joji Nasova added a second try just nine minutes into the match after David Still managed to score for the USA. The tide appeared to shift momentarily when USA’s Faitala Talapusi powered through tackles to score another try. However, Fiji maintained dominance, with Iowane Teba scoring two tries to widen the gap.

The match concluded with a consolation try for the USA from Jack Wendling after the final whistle. Each of the Fijian players contributed to the score, with Nasova, Teba, and Terio Veilawa each converting tries in the second half.

This performance not only showcases Fiji’s strength but also fuels excitement as they prepare for their upcoming match against New Zealand, where their skill and teamwork will be further tested. With their cohesiveness and determination, Fiji stands poised to continue their strong run in the tournament.
