Defending champions Fiji kicked off their journey in the 2024 FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup in Lautoka with an impressive 2-0 victory over Australia. The Fijian team, guided by coach Mohammed Ashif Khan, showcased their talent with star players such as goalkeeper Mohammed Alam, Zibraaz Sahib, Abbu Zahid, Afraz Ali, William Valentine, Usman Omede, Ramzan Khan, and Nabil Begg. Goals from Suva representative Khan and Ba’s Begg in the first half sealed the win for Fiji.

On Day 1 of the tournament, New Zealand also secured a solid 2-0 win against the United States in the Premier division. Meanwhile, in the Masters Division, Fiji and New Zealand battled to a 1-1 draw, while Canada dominated the United States with a convincing 3-0 victory. In the Legends Division, Australia managed to hold New Zealand to a scoreless draw, while Canada triumphed over Fiji with a 4-1 win.
