Animals Fiji, an animal welfare organization, is reaching out for public assistance following the emergence of distressing footage showing dogs being forcibly taken from their surroundings in Nadi Town. The video, which has circulated widely online, depicts individuals engaging in actions that raise significant concerns regarding animal welfare.

According to Animals Fiji, the individuals involved in the incident had already departed from the area by the time the footage was brought to their attention. While the organization acknowledges that the video may invoke strong emotional reactions, it emphasizes the importance of sharing this disturbing content to shed light on the troubling treatment of dogs in local communities.

Animals Fiji highlighted that the growing population of free-roaming dogs in Fiji is primarily attributed to factors such as abandonment, unregulated breeding, and pets being allowed to roam freely without supervision. These circumstances can often lead to distressing removal of animals from public spaces, a situation that affects both the animals and the community at large.

The organization is calling on anyone who recognizes the individuals depicted in the footage to contact the Fiji Police Force with relevant information. Furthermore, the public is invited to discreetly share any information with Animals Fiji, which will coordinate with appropriate authorities, including the Nadi Town Council and the Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways, and Sugar Industry.

Emphasizing the need for responsible pet ownership, Animals Fiji advocates for community cooperation to tackle the issue of stray dogs effectively. They urge the public to consider desexing pets, ensuring dogs are contained safely, refraining from abandoning animals, and reporting any instances of suspected cruelty or suspicious behavior to the proper authorities.

By fostering a sense of collective responsibility and compassion within the community, there is hope for a more humane approach to animal welfare in Fiji.
