Filimone Waqabaca has been officially appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Fiji Development Bank (FDB), an important milestone in the institution’s journey, marked by an orientation at the bank’s headquarters in Suva. During the event, FDB Board Chair Damend Gounder emphasized the bank’s crucial role in Fiji’s financial landscape and expressed his confidence that Waqabaca would bring innovative strategies to propel the bank’s future success.

In his inaugural address, Waqabaca conveyed his vision for FDB to emerge as a catalyst for national development. With a rich background of over thirty years in the financial sector, including notable roles at the Reserve Bank of Fiji and the International Monetary Fund, Waqabaca is well-equipped to lead FDB. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Economics from the University of the South Pacific and a Master’s in International Banking and Financial Studies from the University of Southampton.

Gounder also took a moment to express gratitude to the bank’s executive team, particularly Acting CEO Titilia Vakaoca Kamil, for their leadership during the transition period leading up to Waqabaca’s appointment.
