Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, from his Cabinet position amid ongoing legal challenges. In a public statement, Rabuka confirmed that Kamikamica informed him of his decision to step down and will return to Fiji tomorrow. His official last day serving in the roles will be October 22, 2025.
Rabuka emphasized that Kamikamica will remain a Member of Parliament and will focus on addressing the allegations against him brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. “Hon. Kamikamica will continue to demonstrate his commitment to the government and the people of Fiji,” Rabuka noted, underscoring that he has accepted the resignation with understanding and support for Kamikamica’s focus on clearing his name.
In light of these developments, Rabuka will temporarily oversee Kamikamica’s ministerial responsibilities for the foreseeable future. This situation draws attention to the ongoing scrutiny of political integrity in Fiji, a concern that has been echoed in recent discussions around governance and accountability, particularly following the controversial appointment of Fiji’s FICAC Commissioner.
The unfolding circumstances surrounding Kamikamica resonate with a broader public call for transparency and integrity within Fiji’s political framework, highlighting a critical moment for the nation. The hope remains that through these processes, necessary reforms can emerge, fostering a stable and transparent governance model that aligns with the aspirations of Fiji’s citizens.
