The Health Ministry is enhancing its initiatives to combat dengue fever and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. As part of this effort, fly and mosquito traps are being strategically placed in high-risk areas across Viti Levu.

The focus of this program is on prevention, early detection, and educating communities to help hinder the spread of these diseases. Initial installations have already taken place at key locations including Nausori Air Terminal, Nadi Market, and Nadi International Airport.

Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu has emphasized that these actions are part of the National Dengue Fever and Other Vector-Borne Disease Control Program for 2025–2027, aiming to safeguard community health and bolster public health measures.

The GX Foundation is partnering with the Health Ministry, providing $2 million in vital equipment to aid in the initiative. This donation consists of 450 mosquito lamps, 2,000 rapid dengue test kits, 500 bed nets, and 20,000 sticky fly traps aimed at minimizing mosquito populations.

The plan also includes further installations in other public venues, such as the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, making it a proactive and comprehensive strategy against mosquito-borne diseases. The Ministry encourages public cooperation in maintaining clean environments, which will help maximize the effectiveness of these traps and prevention methods.

These focused efforts highlight a commitment to public health and community protection, aiming to create a safer environment for all residents.
