The High Commissioner of Fiji to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, highlighted the essential role of seniors and the importance of Fijian heritage during the joint celebrations of the International Day for Older Persons and Fiji Day.
Speaking at the A1 Event Centre in Papatoetoe, he expressed gratitude to the Fiji Girmit Foundation for fostering unity among seniors.
“Fiji Day serves not only as a celebration of our rich heritage but also stands as a testament to the resilience of the Fijian community in New Zealand. Your commitment enhances our cultural landscape and contributes significantly to the wider New Zealand society,” stated Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
With Fiji Day approaching on October 19 at Mangere Centre Park, he urged the community to embrace their cultural identity and recognize the strength of Fijians in New Zealand, emphasizing how their presence enriches the larger society.
He also encouraged the youth to honor their heritage and carry on the legacy of their ancestors.
Mr. Kubuabola called for solidarity with those in Fiji, advocating for charitable support and maintaining ties with their homeland.
The Fiji Missions aim to strengthen connections with the Fijian diaspora through public diplomacy programs like Fiji Day, while also promoting national pride and unity.
