The Fiji High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, emphasized the vital role of seniors and the importance of Fijian heritage during the joint celebrations for the International Day for Older Persons and Fiji Day.

At the A1 Event Centre in Papatoetoe, he expressed his gratitude to the Fiji Girmit Foundation for fostering unity among older citizens.

“Fiji Day not only celebrates our rich heritage but also highlights the resilience of the Fijian community in New Zealand. Your commitment adds value to our cultural fabric and enhances the overall society of New Zealand,” said Kubuabola.

As Fiji Day, scheduled for 19 October at Mangere Centre Park, approaches, he encouraged the community to embrace their cultural identity and recognize the resilience of Fijians in New Zealand, noting how their involvement contributes to the wider community.

He also urged the youth to honor their cultural roots and continue the legacy of their forebears.

Kubuabola called for solidarity with those in Fiji, advocating for charitable support and maintaining connections with their homeland.

Through events like Fiji Day, the Fiji Missions aim to strengthen bonds with the Fijian diaspora while promoting national pride and unity.
