In celebration of Fiji Day, market vendors in Suva donned blue attire to mark the nation’s 54th independence anniversary. Tourists arriving on cruise ships at Suva Port joined the festivities, engaging in dance and enjoying the live entertainment.
During the event, Suva City Council chair Tevita Boseiwaqa highlighted the government’s collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that all Fijians benefit. “We aim to promote collaboration, and we are working towards that because independence signifies unity for us,” Mr. Boseiwaqa stated. He emphasized the choice of holding the celebration at Suva Market to engage with the grassroots populace.
Ilisapeci Viriki, general secretary of the Suva United Market Vendor Association, expressed gratitude to the Suva City Council for funding the event. “This event was organized on short notice, but with the assistance of council workers, we managed to create a lively atmosphere with decorations and entertainment,” she remarked.
The main celebrations for Fiji Day are slated for tomorrow at Subrail Park in Labasa, where President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere will officiate the proceedings.
