Reginald Kumar, a darts player from Fiji, is set to compete in his first-ever singles title at the Extra Fiji National Singles Darts Championship this weekend. Kumar has previously tasted victory in doubles, winning the title alongside Salen Krishna.

As he prepares for the competitive championship, Kumar is determined to give his best. He has a long-term vision of participating in the upcoming SPDC Games scheduled for next year in the Cook Islands. “This competition, I hope to gain more exposure to make it to the SPDC Games,” he stated, reflecting his enthusiasm for the sport.

Having dedicated four years to darts, Kumar emphasizes the importance of effective time management, particularly for individuals balancing employment and sports. He encourages anyone curious about darts to join their club in Samabula, which welcomes new members. Kumar missed the chance to represent Fiji last year, but he remains optimistic about his prospects for joining the national team soon.

The championship, concluding tomorrow, is expected to create an engaging environment for both players and spectators, showcasing growing passion for darts in Fiji.

It’s worth noting that the Fiji Darts Association is also focused on expanding inclusive participation in the sport, with upcoming events such as the South Pacific Darts Championship poised to involve both men and women from across the region. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to elevate the sport’s profile in Fiji and inspire future athletes.

Kumar’s journey and aspirations exemplify the growing narrative of opportunity and representation in darts in Fiji, promising a bright future for the sport.
