Fiji Cricket Soars as Team Prepares for World Cup Glory!

Cricket Fiji’s initiatives to enhance and promote the sport are receiving acclaim from President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, as cricket continues to develop in Fiji.

This morning, the 14-member Fiji Cricket team presented their iTatau at the State House in preparation for their qualification journey for the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 in Samoa.

“It is indeed a pleasure to witness the revitalization of a sport that has deep roots in our nation’s history and continues to thrive today,” President Katonivere remarked to the team.

He noted, “Just a few days ago, I welcomed a group of young women on their way to Colombia to participate in the Under-20 Women’s Soccer World Cup. It is therefore an honor to send off a group of young men headed for the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 qualification in Samoa.”

President Katonivere highlighted the significance of young Fijians representing their country on an international level, asserting that Fiji is poised to become a leading force in numerous sports, with young athletes making an impact globally.

He concluded by encouraging the team to serve as “exemplary ambassadors of cricket and, above all, of our nation as you represent Fiji in Samoa.”

The Fiji Men’s Cricket team is set to depart for Samoa on Thursday, August 19.
