The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the illegal importation of vape products without the necessary permits. This alert comes in light of rising cases where vape products have been found entering the country without compliance with local regulations.

FRCS is currently conducting investigations into multiple incidents of unauthorized importation. The increase in online advertisements for vaping products across various platforms has caught the agency’s attention, raising concerns for public health and safety. As stated by the FRCS, any vape products intended for commercial sale must be accompanied by a valid permit from the Ministry of Health. Products imported without this approval are subject to confiscation.

In a notable recent incident, customs officials intercepted a shipment of vape products that had been imported illegally. The shipment was not only brought in without the proper permits but was also falsely declared, with discrepancies between the declared quantity and the actual amount of goods imported. Such actions are deemed serious violations under customs regulations.

FRCS further emphasized that attempts to smuggle vape products or provide misleading information can lead to the forfeiture of the items and may trigger additional regulatory actions. The agency encourages individuals and businesses looking to import such products to seek guidance from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to ensure compliance with all importation and regulatory requirements.

This proactive stance reflects FRCS’s commitment to safeguarding public health and safety through stringent border controls and regulatory enforcement. Their initiative not only aims to protect citizens from potential health risks associated with unregulated products but also promotes adherence to the laws governing importation practices in Fiji.
