The Fiji Police Force reported that during the period from December 22 to 25, a total of 934 traffic infringement notices were issued. Notably, 23 drivers were arrested for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, 440 individuals received tickets for minor offenses, and 311 were penalized for speeding. Other violations included 58 tickets for careless driving, as well as 51 each for failing to produce a driving license and for not wearing seat belts. Furthermore, 10 drivers were cited for carrying excess passengers, 8 were caught using mobile phones while driving, and 5 were penalized for driving with expired licenses.

Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized that speeding remains the leading cause of traffic accidents and urged all drivers to adhere to speed limits. He stated, “We have been creating traffic awareness and have been calling on drivers to abide by the road rules.” The ACP also encouraged drivers to ensure they have proper documentation readily available and to plan their trips wisely, including getting enough rest and limiting alcohol consumption if they intend to drive.

In summary, the police are actively working to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations through public awareness and enforcement measures. This initiative is hopeful, as it not only aims to prevent accidents but also fosters a safer driving environment for all.
