Fiji’s Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the illicit drug trade in the country, following a successful operation that resulted in the seizure of over four kilograms of methamphetamine. This operation was a collaboration between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), leading to the arrest of three individuals, including a police officer accused of misconduct.

Tudravu praised the joint efforts of the law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling drug trafficking and the message it sends that Fiji is not a safe haven for drug traffickers. He reaffirmed a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any individuals in authority who engage in corrupt practices for personal gain.

Udit Singh, the CEO of the FRCS, also expressed his commitment to fighting drug trafficking, commending the effectiveness of the intelligence and surveillance capabilities of customs officers. Singh highlighted that every method—be it by sea, air, or freight—is being utilized to ensure that attempts to breach national borders with illegal substances are met with swift action.

The authorities are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking through confidential channels, further fostering community involvement in the fight against drug crimes.

The operation reflects a broader trend in Fiji, where law enforcement has successfully intercepted various drug trafficking attempts in recent months, signaling an ongoing commitment to public safety and community well-being. It is a hopeful indication of a safer Fiji as these collaborative efforts continue to dismantle drug networks and uphold the integrity of the nation’s security forces. Such proactive measures highlight the potential for positive change in the fight against illicit substances, promising a healthier environment for all citizens.
