Thirty players have been selected to represent the Fiji Corrections Services’ Wardens team for the upcoming 2026 rugby season as the organization enters a crucial rebuilding phase. The players were named following an evaluation conducted during the Fiji Sports Council’s annual inter-unit sevens tournament.

In this tournament, the southern, central, and western divisions each fielded three teams, while the national and northern divisions participated with two teams each. The trials aimed to refresh the 7s team, as last season’s performance on the national stage was marked by inconsistency.

“This tournament is an opportunity for us to discover new talent,” said Jone Sigavou, a spokesperson for the Fiji Sports Council. “We’ve brought in two recruits, but so far haven’t had a chance to see them shine. We’ve successfully identified new players, some who have been part of the Corrections for the past two years but haven’t had the opportunity to showcase their skills. We’re looking forward to this rebuilding phase, and we are hopeful that the 30 players selected will lead us into a successful season next year.”

From this pool of 30 players, a final team will be chosen to compete in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka and Marist 7s tournaments. The focus now will be on developing these athletes to ensure a strong performance in the upcoming competitions.
