Fiji Corrections Service Unveils Bold New Integrity Policy

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy designed to enhance the professional behavior and integrity of its officers and staff. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining ethical standards and exhibiting conduct that reflects positively on the organization’s reputation.

The proposed guidelines will address conduct within marital and committed relationships, particularly aiming to prevent extramarital affairs that could harm the public perception of the FCS. It will also establish expectations for professional behavior both inside and outside the workplace, acknowledging that FCS officers are expected to maintain a high level of public trust.

FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa remarked that this initiative demonstrates the service’s dedication to professionalism, integrity, and the trust of the public. He stated, “Integrity in personal relationships is not merely a private issue for FCS staff; it has a direct impact on how the service is perceived.”

The policy outlines that officers are expected to uphold ethical behavior in both their personal and professional interactions. Currently, the policy is under review and will be subject to consultations before its official implementation. Violations of the policy could lead to disciplinary actions, including counseling, reprimands, suspension, or even dismissal, depending on the seriousness of the infraction.

Moreover, the policy will provide support mechanisms such as counseling services for employees facing personal difficulties, demonstrating FCS’s commitment to staff welfare while promoting the highest standards of conduct. The Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will apply to all FCS employees and focus on several areas, including relationship integrity, workplace professionalism, and maintaining a positive image in the public eye.
