The Fiji Corrections Services (FCS) has announced the identification of 81 new job roles within its administration, technical, and ranking officer categories, following a Job Evaluation Exercise (JEE) approved by the Cabinet and supported by Parliament through the current national budget. Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga communicated to Parliament that the revised structure will not recognize traditional promotions or demotions; instead, progression will depend on the roles assigned to officers based on their performance and the needs of the organization.
Turaga emphasized that this reassessment of the organizational framework includes updates to Human Resources policies and the alignment of compensation structures with the qualifications, experience, and responsibilities expected of officers. He noted that the last JEE was carried out approximately 40 years ago, indicating a significant gap that needed to be addressed. The exercise not only helped articulate job descriptions for various roles but also facilitated the creation of an organizational chart to highlight the new positions, a practice absent in previous administrations.
This restructuring effort signals a modernization of the FCS and a proactive step towards enhancing its operational effectiveness.
