Two officers from the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) have been dismissed due to their involvement in a drug-related incident during a police operation. Authorities had discovered the officers at a location suspected of functioning as a drug laboratory, where various items commonly associated with drug production, such as digital weighing scales, plastic film sealers, and zip-lock bags containing suspected methamphetamine residues, were confiscated.
An internal investigation revealed that these officers had been renting a property from a known drug dealer and former inmate of the Suva Remand Centre. Alarmingly, it was also discovered that both officers were living together as partners, despite being married to others.
FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa underscored the organization’s commitment to a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any misconduct or criminal activities among its staff. He noted that breaches of ethical and legal standards will result in immediate disciplinary actions. This case is part of the FCS’s ongoing efforts to uphold high ethical standards and address drug-related issues within the service, following previous dismissals of personnel for similar violations.
The FCS is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes effectively and to ensure its staff adheres to principles of discipline, integrity, and accountability.
