The Fiji Corrections Service is ramping up its initiatives aimed at improving rehabilitation and facilitating the reintegration of ex-offenders into society. Acting Commissioner of Corrections Auta Moceisuva, accompanied by senior officers, conducted visits to the Labasa and Taveuni Corrections Centres last week. The purpose of these visits was to evaluate the facilities, review ongoing development projects, and engage with staff through open discussions known as talanoa sessions.

Moceisuva emphasized that this year, the Service is prioritizing enhanced public engagement to bolster rehabilitation efforts and support the reintegration process for former inmates. He noted that effective communication between leadership and frontline officers is essential to ensure that policies are executed correctly and are in line with the strategic direction set by the Fiji Corrections Service and government priorities.

The visits by the Acting Commissioner also provided an opportunity for management to assess operational advancements, identify any deficiencies, and collect feedback aimed at improving service delivery. This proactive approach reflects the Service’s commitment to fostering a more supportive environment for rehabilitation, ultimately contributing to safer communities. By focusing on communication and community involvement, the Fiji Corrections Service is taking significant steps toward a more effective correctional process.
