A comprehensive inquiry conducted by the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has disclosed that officers and their families were provided with free meals and groceries from Grace Road businesses situated in Suva and its vicinity. The investigation took off after allegations that certain officers were receiving special treatment from detained Grace Road Director, Daniel Kim who is currently housed at the Suva Remand Centre under the jurisdiction of the Department of Immigration.
Eleven officers have been found involved in these dealings. Dr Jalesi Nakarawa, the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, asserts that these actions are a clear breach of the ethical standards and rules regulating the behavior of the FCS staff. He emphasized the importance of the officers’ integrity and professionalism to the institution’s operations.
Prompt disciplinary action will be taken against the officers in question. The FCS remains devoted to the upkeep of the law and ensuring that all officers maintain the highest standard of conduct, stressing an intolerance for any misconduct or unethical behavior. Measures are being set to avert future instances of such misbehavior and emphasize the importance of ethical conduct among staff members.
Assuring the public of the FCS’s continuation of operation with transparency and accountability, Dr Nakarawa also affirmed the organization’s commitment to safe, secure, and humane containment of offenders and their eventual rehabilitation and societal reintegration. Further details regarding disciplinary actions will be handled internally to ensure respect for the privacy and rights of those involved. The primary objective of the FCS is to uphold the law and ensure public safety through professional corrections management.
