Thirty personnel from the Fiji Corrections Service recently participated in a specialized training session designed to enhance strategic work planning and ensure alignment with national objectives. The three-hour workshop, held at the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service in Nasese, was organized by the Ministry of Civil Service as part of its Inter-Agency Civil Service Training Program.
Attendees were guided on developing Individual Work Plans (IWPs) that align with their agency’s Annual Corporate Plans and the overarching National Development Plan. The training introduced essential tools such as the Performance Management Framework Cycle, strategic planning principles, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) alignment, and performance rating systems. This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the capacity and efficiency of civil servants, with regular training sessions expected to follow.
The recent Job Evaluation Exercise (JEE) undertaken by the Fiji Corrections Services, which created 81 new positions, underscores a broader effort within the organization to modernize and improve its operational structure. The JEE is a vital step toward aligning personnel roles with contemporary needs, facilitating clear job descriptions, and promoting a performance-focused culture. Both initiatives—the specialized training and the JEE—highlight a progressive approach to workforce management that aims to bolster the overall effectiveness of the Fiji Corrections Service while supporting professional growth among its staff.
This dual focus on training and structural realignment presents a hopeful outlook for the future of the agency, promising enhanced efficiency and a more organized environment for its employees.
