A recent partnership initiative between the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) and the People’s Republic of China was celebrated when two corrections officers were sent to China for specialized training. This initiative underscores the FCS’s commitment to professional development and international collaboration.
On May 7, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Kaliova Matakarawa and Class A reception officer Mereadani Kiliraki were officially farewelled at the FCS headquarters in Suva. Their selection for this training opportunity was praised as a recognition of their hard work and dedication. Deputy Commissioner Auta Moceisuva expressed confidence that their experiences in China will contribute significantly to FCS’s future operations.
Matakarawa participated in a seminar on Advancing Supply Chain Connectivity and Trade Facilitation through E-Port held in Shanghai from May 9 to 22. Kiliraki attended a seminar focused on Female Leadership Building for Developing Countries in Beijing from May 8 to 21. These sessions aim to equip officers with modern skills and knowledge essential for enhancing the effectiveness of the corrections system in Fiji.
Previously, FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa emphasized the importance of continuous education and training for corrections officers, stating that strong communication and professional integrity are crucial for the role. The ongoing training initiatives and international collaborations signify a hopeful future for corrections in Fiji, as they not only enhance the capacity of the corrections workforce but also foster improved rehabilitation practices within the community.
This proactive approach to training and professional development indicates a commitment to building a more effective corrections system that benefits both the officers and the communities they serve, paving the way for a brighter future in the corrections sector.
