The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) celebrated a heartfelt Family Day yesterday, opening its doors for six hours to allow family members to visit loved ones in correctional facilities. This initiative offered a unique opportunity for emotional reunions, marked by an atmosphere filled with tears, laughter, and the sharing of meals among families.

This special event was organized across all FCS facilities nationwide, but it was exclusive to inmates who have maintained good behaviour and discipline throughout the year. The FCS emphasized the importance of family visitations in the rehabilitation process, stating that such interactions foster positive change, emotional healing, and reinforce essential bonds necessary for a successful reintegration back into society upon release.

In conjunction with Family Day, the Fiji Corrections Service also extended warm Christmas greetings and best wishes for the festive season and the upcoming New Year to the families of inmates, highlighting their commitment to nurturing family connections in the rehabilitation journey. This initiative reflects a hopeful approach to corrections, prioritizing the significance of family support in the path to reform and reintegration.
