The Cabinet has decided to amend the Passport Act of 2002 to allow the issuance of Official Passports to qualified senior officials for official use only and for the term of their appointments. The Official Passport is one of four categories of passports available through the Fiji Immigration Department and has previously been restricted to members of the disciplined forces engaged in peacekeeping missions.

The other types of passports issued include the Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Emergency Passport. The proposed amendments will be presented to the Cabinet for further review.

This initiative could streamline official travel for senior officials, enhancing their ability to conduct state business efficiently. It signifies a commitment to improving governmental operations, which can ultimately lead to better service for the public. The Cabinet’s continuous review of these measures hints at a proactive approach towards governance and international collaboration.
