Former Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption commissioner Barbara Malimali, along with Fiji Law Society President William Wylie Clarke, immediate past president Laurel Vaurasi, and former attorney-general Graham Leung, have received permission to pursue a judicial review of a recent Commission of Inquiry (COI) report. This legal move seeks to challenge the report’s validity, aiming to nullify its findings and recommendations, alongside seeking other related court declarations.
During a recent court session, it was determined that the applicants had sufficiently met the necessary criteria to advance their request for judicial review. The proceedings for this case are set to continue on February 16, providing a timeline for the judicial examination of the COI report’s legality and the processes that led to its conclusions.
This judicial review holds significant importance, as it may potentially influence both the outcomes of the report and any resultant actions moving forward. The case underscores ongoing concerns regarding transparency and accountability in matters of public interest, reflecting a proactive approach by the applicants in seeking clarification and justice regarding the COI’s findings.
