Toxicology reports have confirmed that the ingredients and cocktail served at the Warwick Fiji Resort and Spa did not contain any illicit substances or methanol, following the incident where seven guests fell ill. The Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, shared these results during a press conference as investigations by the Ministry of Health and the Police are ongoing.
The affected guests, all women, included four Australians, one American, and two foreign residents who were hospitalized at the Aspen Medical Hospital in Lautoka after consuming Pina Coladas on Saturday. They experienced nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms but have since recovered and been discharged from medical care.
Gavoka expressed relief at the findings of the toxicology report, stating, “No elusive substances or methanol were found in the ingredients or drink samples.” He added that the results are reassuring for Fiji’s tourism sector, emphasizing the importance of health and safety for visitors.
This situation, while concerning, has ultimately concluded positively, with all affected individuals recovering. The swift medical response and the reassuring findings reinforce Fiji’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for tourists, which is crucial for the country’s tourism-dependent economy.
In summary, recent toxicology reports have alleviated fears surrounding a health incident at a resort in Fiji, allowing for a hopeful outlook in terms of tourism safety and recovery for the affected guests.
