Team Flame Tree, under the leadership of Peter Levestam, is favored to win the Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, which kicks off this weekend. This competition, hosted by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, celebrates the first anniversary of the tournament.
Top competitors include seasoned anglers such as Jared Wood (Ice T), Thakor Punja (Lunasea), Darren Smith (Hoodlum), Alex Leigh, and veteran Marc McElrath, with Cristina Valente representing the women’s category on the Sidestep vessel. Tournament coordinator Glenn Wakeman has highlighted the event’s appeal, attracting both local and international anglers.
The victorious team will earn an invitation to the prestigious Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, along with a cash prize of $10,000. Participants can also look forward to numerous awards for various species, categories, and additional spot prizes. The tournament will be hosted at the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, located next to Sails Restaurant.
Significant prizes include a Champion Team Tournament Trophy, $10,000 for the overall winner, and additional prizes for the Consolation Big Boat Team ($1500), Champion Male, Female and Junior Anglers, and the Last Man Standing.
Currently, Team Flame Tree leads the season’s tally with 2313.7 points, followed closely by Ice T with 2278.4 points, and Hoodlum at 1715.5 points. The leading individual anglers are Wood, with 1771.8 points, Levestam with 1500 points, Thakor Punja with 1000 points, and Smith with 555.4 points.
