Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levastam, is set to compete in the highly anticipated Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, which takes place this weekend. This event, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, celebrates its inaugural anniversary tournament.
Participating in this exciting competition are some of the top anglers, including Peter Levestam, Jared Wood from the team Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith from Hoodlum, and Alex Leigh, along with the experienced Marc McElrath. Cristina Valente, representing Sidestep, is the prominent female angler in the competition.
Coordinator Glenn Wakeman announced that the tournament has drawn a diverse group of both local and international fishing enthusiasts. “The winning team will receive an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, along with a cash prize of $10,000,” he stated. The event will also offer various prizes for different fish species, individual anglers, and teams, as well as spot prizes. The tournament venue will be at the new Clubhouse located at Port Denarau Marina, adjacent to Sails Restaurant.
Participants can look forward to significant rewards with major tournament prizes including a Champion Team trophy, the $10,000 cash prize, and additional awards for the Consolation Big Boat Team ($1,500), as well as the Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, along with the Last Man Standing award.
Currently, in the ongoing team standings, Flame Tree is leading with 2313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T at 2278.4 points. Other teams include Hoodlum (1715.5 points), Lunasea (100 points), Rawhiti (250 points), and Sere Na Ua (123.4 points). In the individual rankings, Jared Wood is in the top position with 1771.8 points, followed by Levestam (1500 points), Thakor Punja (1000 points), and Darren Smith (555.4 points).
