The Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, sponsored by Flame Tree and led by captain Peter Levastam, is set to kick off this weekend and has generated excitement among local and visiting anglers alike. This tournament, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, celebrates its inaugural year.
Notable participants include skilled anglers such as Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith of Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and the experienced Marc McElrath. Cristina Valente represents the female contingent as the angler from Sidestep.
Coordinator Glenn Wakeman highlighted that the competition draws anglers from various locations, with the winning team earning an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, along with a cash prize of $10,000. Participants will also have the chance to compete for numerous additional prizes in various categories, set against the picturesque backdrop of the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, adjacent to Sails Restaurant.
In terms of competition standings, Flame Tree currently leads the season’s team tally with 2,313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T with 2,278.4 points, Hoodlum with 1,715.5 points, and others. Top individual performers include Jared Wood, who boasts 1,771.8 points, alongside Levestam, Punja, and Smith.
