Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024: Who Will Reel in the Big Win?

Team Flame Tree, led by Captain Peter Levastam, is being hailed as the frontrunner for the inaugural Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024 event, which is set to kick off this weekend. This tournament, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, marks the first anniversary of this exciting competition.

Among the standout anglers participating in the event are Peter Levestam, Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja of Lunasea, Darren Smith representing Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and the seasoned veteran, Marc McElrath. Notably, female angler Cristina Valente will be competing for Sidestep.

Event coordinator Glenn Wakeman highlighted the impressive lineup of local and international participants. “The winning team will earn an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, in addition to a cash prize of $10,000,” he revealed.

The tournament boasts a range of opportunities for participants, including prizes for various species, individual anglers, and boats, alongside numerous spot prizes. It will be hosted at the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, conveniently located next to Sails Restaurant.

Furthermore, the competition will feature substantial cash prizes and high-quality fishing gear, with significant awards for the Champion Team, which will receive a trophy and the $10,000 prize. Other categories include Consolation for the Big Boat Team ($1,500), Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, along with a Last Man Standing award.

Currently, in the season’s team standings, Flame Tree is leading with 2,313.7 points, followed closely by Ice T at 2,278.4 points, and Hoodlum with 1,715.5 points.

The event is anticipated to showcase the skill and excitement of game fishing, bringing together passionate anglers to compete in a friendly yet challenging environment. This promising start for the Fiji Classic Game Fishing could set the stage for an annual tradition that celebrates both the sport and the beautiful surroundings of Fiji.
